Temporada Alta - The Autumn Festival of Catalonia

The Festival

Temporada Alta, the Autumn Festival of Catalonia, hopes to once again rank as the major festival of Catalan scenic arts. A festival in which theatre as well as dance, circus and the music of the finest international artists share areas in the city with the latest proposals from Catalan creative artists. The festival is a reference point for both critics and artists alike, without leaving aside the fact that the event is aimed at a wide and varied audience.

Throughout the fifteen previous events, the Temporada Alta Festival has become a structure – with the participation of public organisation and private management – for established and emerging artists, for innovative performances and first performances, and has see the likes of Ute Lemper, Isabelle Huppert, Giorgio Strehler, Patrice Chéreau or Robert Lepage, among many others, grace its stages.

Peter Brook, one of the regular attendants is performing this year in the Temporada Alta Festival together with Darío Fo, with an artistic review of the 20th century through three of its most prominent personalities. The third is Samuel Beckett, from who the version of Krapp’s Last Tape which he himself directed is offered here.

The Temporada Alta Festival is a showcase for the finest in international theatre. This year, for example we can see another accomplished trio: Christoph Marthaler, Jan Lauwers and the Pole Krystian Lupa or a magnificent look at Argentinean theatre.

The Temporada Alta Festival is also noteworthy as a producer of performances, as an incentive to contemporary creation and the promotion of the most attractive ideas on the national dramatics scene. All in all, and without losing sight of the establishment of an area which, this year takes on a new dimension with the inauguration, during the last week of the festival, of the Canal Centre of the Scenic Arts of Salt-Girona.
