This is the 20th edition of Temporada Alta- Festival de Tardor de Catalunya, organised by Bitò Produccions, in conjunction with the Girona and Salt City Councils, the Department of Culture of the Generalitat of Catalonia and the Diputació of Girona, opens up on 30th September with the première of Un fràgil equilibri (A delicate balance) directed by Mario Gas and of Havanera. LabCanal: Argelès sur Mer, the stage laboratory directed by Àlex Rigola, and winds up on 11th December with Jungles by Patrice Thibaut. This edition of the festival includes 94 shows from 19 different countries.

Temporada Alta is a festival produced and managed by Bitò Produccions.

Despite the general feeling of depression in the world of culture due to the economic downturn, and the subsequent doubts that arise from this regarding the role that culture should have at this particular moment, Temporada Alta has strived to maintain a sense of normalcy in the current edition of the Festival, in good measure thanks to European funding. It once again combines a series of productions by renowned international stage names (Krystian Lupa, Jan Fabre, Edward Hall, Christoph Marthaler, Daniel Veronese, Les 7 doigts de la main, Lev Dodin, Oskaras Korsunovas, Peeping Tom, Israel Galván, to name but a few) with those by well established Spanish directors (Sergi López, Carles Santos, Mario Gas, Àlex Rigola, Marta Angelat, Carles Alfaro, Joan Ollé and Xavier Albertí, Ramon Simó, Marta Carrasco, among others). Nor does it forget new fields of creation and young Catalan authors (such as Jordi Oriol, Àlex Serrano and Ferran Dordal, Jordi Prat i Coll, Jordi Casanovas), equally important to the Festival as others.

This has been achieved with a slightly lower budget than last year despite the slight fall in overall contributions we normally receive from institutions and private companies that sponsor the the Festival, thanks to the final contribution of funding received from the European Union's Interreg IV programme in the ECT (Cross-border Catalan Stage) project, carried out jointly with Perpignan. As a result, this year Temporada Alta is able to programme a further 18 shows than it did last year and to place more tickets on sale than in 2010.

Temporada Alta - Festival de Tardor de Catalunya will once again be the yearly autumn meeting point of artists from various locations and above all, between artists and audiences. The Festival continues to collaborate in the production of new plays in Catalonia to support new ideas and allow new creative projects to be seen by the general public.

Temporada Alta- 2011 still aims to put across a sense of normalcy (maybe for the last time!), to be the great autumn theatre festival in Catalonia and, as in the previous editions, the programme has been built around seven core themes:

  1. International programme
  2. A driving force behind theatre creation
  3. Catalan authorship
  4. Young artists and new creative projects
  5. Collaboration with EL CANAL- Centre d'Arts Escèniques of Salt / Girona
  6. Internationalisation of Catalan theatre
  7. The importance of the audience
